Surface Preparation
Cleaning and pretreatment are critical for success of any coating system. As each application may be different, the cleaning/preparation may be different as well. Blue River Coatings recommends different cleaning/pretreatment processes depending upon each application and the amount of cleaning required.
Use a mild detergent such as Dawn diswashing soap. This will be sufficient for general cleaning/degreasing of the surface to be coated. Use appropriate cleaning equipment (e.g. clean cloth, scrubbing brush, spray bottle, pressure washer) for the substrate. Thoroughly rinse the surface to remove any cleaning solution residue prior to coating. If cleaning/coating a vertical surface, work from top to bottom to ensure adequate cleaning, rinsing, and coating. The substrate must be completely dry prior to HPA Clear Shield application.
Application Methods
- Spraying: Reduce with water as needed up to 10% by volume. Apply a medium wet coat over the surface. For best results, air pressure should be 15-20 psi. Atomization pressure depends on nozzle size and viscosity.
- Brushing: Reduce with water as needed up to 10% by volume. Use a high quality nylon or polyester natural bristle brush.
- Rolling: Reduce with water as needed up to 10% by volume. Use a high quality cover 1/4 - 3/8" coven solvent resistance core brush.
